The issue of an “Open With” dialog box appearing when right-clicking on an app icon in the Taskbar or Start menu has been observed in various Microsoft applications such as Outlook for Windows, Snip & Sketch, and Teams. While no fix for this problem has been provided yet, Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is working on a patch to resolve it. The company has also stated that the problem may extend to other applications attempting to use the right-click context menu.

According to a Windows release health page update from Microsoft, this issue emerged after the installation of the Windows update released on April 23, 2024 (KB5036979) and subsequent updates. When encountering this problem, users may see an “Open With” dialog box instead of executing the selected task after right-clicking on the app icon. While awaiting a solution from Microsoft, affected users are advised that they may be able to perform the same operations by making the application interface visible and navigating the application interface and menus.
