The company has been causing annoyance among users by bombarding them with ads for its products, yet it shows no signs of stopping, particularly in its efforts to promote Windows. The most recent example is a full-screen message targeting Windows 10 users, urging them to embark on a “new journey with Windows”.
This nag screen not only serves as a reminder about the end of support for Windows 10 in 18 months but also promotes Windows 11, even to users whose computers are not compatible with the latest operating system. These prompts are not only inconvenient but also appear at inopportune times, further frustrating users.
The message on the nag screen thanks Windows 10 customers for their loyalty but also informs them that their current PCs are not eligible for an upgrade to Windows 11. Despite this, the message encourages users to learn more about preparing for the transition to Windows 11.
The audacious nature of this message is compounded by the fact that it cannot be easily dismissed. Reddit user Woopinah9’s comments on the post mock and criticize Microsoft for pushing software that users cannot directly upgrade to and also express frustration at the interruption caused by full-screen ads.
The nag screen seems poorly thought out and ill-advised, with Microsoft appearing unlikely to take notice of the irritation these tactics are causing.
