Businesses’ Revenue Loss Due to Bot Attacks

The study found that only 20% of respondents reported that their bot mitigation solution remained effective for over 12 months after initial deployment. Among those using bot management, 67% are currently using Content Delivery Network (CDN)-based bot detection. Additionally, 30% of respondents stated that their organization had spent $1,000,000 or more on mitigating bot attacks over the past year.

Further, the research revealed that 79% of respondents are considering switching bot mitigation providers due to the poor levels of effectiveness in their current solutions. Sam Crowther, founder and CEO of Kasada, emphasized the need for a dynamic and adaptable bot mitigation approach, especially with financially-motivated adversaries rapidly circumventing traditional bot defenses and new technologies like AI increasing the number of automated threats organizations are facing. The study also highlighted that 87% of IT/IS specialists reported that their executive team is concerned about bot attacks and AI-driven fraud. Many are worried about AI driving more complex and frequent bot attacks, with generative AI enabling criminal attackers to carry out sophisticated attacks with ease and sophisticated bots bypassing CAPTCHAs. Moreover, the research indicated that 37% of organizations have lost more than five percent of their revenue due to web scraping, and 34% have reported similar losses due to account fraud.
