The long-awaited Raspberry Pi 5 has finally been released, promising significantly faster performance. Described as the “everything computer,” the new model boasts a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz, along with an 800MHz VideoCore VII GPU, providing a substantial uplift in graphics performance.

The RP1 “southbridge” has improved I/O capabilities, doubling the aggregate USB bandwidth for faster transfer speeds and offering a notable improvement in peripheral performance and functionality. Additionally, the Raspberry Pi 5 features a pair of four-lane 1.5Gbps MIPI transceivers, tripling the total bandwidth to support up to two cameras or displays.

It also introduces a single-lane PCI Express 2.0 interface, offering support for high-bandwidth peripherals. The Raspberry Pi 5 comes with a choice of 4GB or 8GB of RAM and requires the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS, Bookworm, which is set to launch in mid-October.

The specifications for the new Raspberry Pi model include a range of features, such as dual 4Kp60 HDMI display output with HDR support, LPDDR4X-4267 SDRAM, dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0/Bluetooth Low Energy, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet with PoE+ support, PCIe 2.0 x1 interface, and more. The Raspberry Pi 5 is set for release at the end of October and is available for pre-order today, with prices starting at $60 for the 4GB model and $80 for the 8GB version.
