Google has announced a new feature called “Find My Device,” which is similar to Apple’s Find My network. It allows users to track the location of Android handsets and supports third-party AirTag-style trackers. Although the rollout has begun in beta, a full launch is expected soon.

The discovery of this feature was made by AssembleDebug, a software detective specializing in uncovering secrets in Google apps. This was found in the Google Play Service beta version 24.12.14. However, it seems that the beta rollout is limited to a small subset of users, as some people with the update installed are seeing references to Find My Device while others are not.

Mishaal Rahman has shared additional screenshots of the new feature. Originally announced at Google I/O 2023, Find My Device works similarly to Apple’s Find My network. It was initially scheduled for a summer 2023 launch but was delayed while Google worked on anti-stalking technology in collaboration with Apple.

Find My Device uses Bluetooth to track devices, even when they are not online.
